Who Are You …

By The BC Crew

Which Star Wars character are you?

Dad’s Bubba gave him the complete Star Wars Box set on Blu-Ray for Christmas this year – needless to say, we’ve been watching a lot of Star Wars lately (including the spoof and outtakes CD) … we’re quickly turning into Star Wars Geeks.  Well, we all got to thinking about which Star Wars character that we thought that the others most resembled … not necessarily their favorite or the coolest one, but the one that they most closely resemble in either looks or mannerisms.  Here are the final conclusions …

Bubba:  Do we even have to say … Chewbacca[i]!  Big, Hairy, Strong, Loyal (maybe to a fault), does his own thing (and speaks his own language) – but will follow his buddy to the end with very little questions being asked.

Patches:  C-3PO[ii] – extremely good hearted and intelligent, R2-D2’s best friend (though "she??" sometimes hates to admit it), very competent and capable, yet very needy from those in “her” circle.  Now, in some respects you could also think of Jar Jar Binks[iii] as a good match – fun, loving, loyal – but Patch is much too intelligent and not really that clumsy (for a three legged dog)!

Gall:  Ok – open your mind and think this one through before you disagree with us … R2-D2[iv].  Yeah, we know she is the super star athlete and all, and you might think that she would be the model for the top Jedi Knight … but think about it – she, as well as, R2 solve many, many problems, are independent, generally prefer to stay in the background until they are needed – but when they do step up … problems are averted!  Really – this is THE best choice.  If you don’t believe us – watch umpteen hours of Star Wars!  R2 is a bad butt to the core!!!

Momma Roo:  She IS the master … who else could she be but Master Yoda[v]?  She even has the ears …  Enough said!  Not up for discussion!

Annie:  Ahhh, Ms. Ann.  This was the tough one with her multiple personalities (at first) … but we’re all pretty much agreed now that, she is young Anakin Skywalker[vi] (they did call him Ani, by the way!).  She has the ability, has the knowledge, but lacks the focus , patience, and respect (sometimes) for the "force".  Time will only tell if she will turn to the Dark Side.

Guess that leaves mom-D and dad as Princess Leia and Han Solo (oh, by the way, dad also likes to think of himself as Obi Wan Kenobi!  Or maybe even Mace Windu[vii]!)

So – who is your Star Wars character?  (NOTE:  Dad tried adding to our article and even had a fairly lengthy list of "who was who" - we wouldn't let him publish it!  Over the internet ain't the way to find out that you're compared to Lando, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, General Grievous or Darth Maul ... but we can say, without question, that Maggie is Jabba the Hutt (purely on the physical resemblence, she is as sweet as a BH can be!!!)  OK - I TAKE THIS BACK!!!!  Wow!  I can't handle the criticism, it is WAY past the point of being "constructive"!!!!  I have been informed that Maggie's feelings are hurt and her "mom" is upset and considering a defamation lawsuit.  I have done some additional research, and while I never said that beautiful Maggie was the heaviest dog in the world, I have done some research[viii] and ... .... .... ... well, I stand by my earlier statement!  Love you Ms. Maggie!!

You know, Star Wars has a lot on insight to the struggles that each of us go through on a pretty regular basis and covers quite a few a life's basic concepts.  Think of Bubba next time you watch it – and watch it for the “deep thoughts” – there’s some really good stuff in there!  Really - just do a google search - you might find:   http://12most.com/2012/06/29/life-lessons-from-star-wars/  (here's the short list - check out the link for the full poop ... really - it is good!):

1. Don’t abandon your friends

2. Dream big

3. Finish what you start

4. Don’t underestimate your opponent

5. Children are not condemned to repeat the sins of their parents

6. Pay your bills

7. It’s never too late for redemption

8. Judge not by appearances should you

9. It’s a small world (and galaxy)

10. The galaxy is flat

11. Let the Wookie win

12. Quit while you’re ahead

One of my favorite Yoda Quotes:

No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.

~ Yoda, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

There's a dark side to each and every human soul. We wish we were Obi-Wan Kenobi, and for the most part we are, but there's a little Darth Vader in all of us. Thing is, this ain't no either or proposition. We're talking about dialectics[ix], the good and the bad merging into us. You can run but you can't hide. My experience? Face the darkness, stare it down. Own it. As brother Nietzsche said, being human is a complicated gig. Give that old dark night of the soul a hug! Howl the eternal yes!

[i] Chewbacca is a gentle and hairy co-pilot.  A Wookiee became Han Solo’s first mate and companion after Solo, when an Imperial Captain, refused an order to kill him while Chewbacca was a slave of the Empire. Solo was dismissed from the Imperial Navy for disobedience and became a smuggler.  Chewbacca owed a life debt to Han and would serve Han Solo for the rest of his life.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[ii] C-3PO or Threepio, for short, is a protocol droid designed to serve human beings, and boasts that he is fluent in "over six million forms of communication".  He is generally seen with his long-time counterpart, R2-D2.  Threepio's main function is to assist etiquette, customs, and translation, so that meetings of different cultures run smoothly.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[iii] Jar Jar Binks is a bumbling Gungan from the planet Naboo.  Banished by his tribe for his clumsiness, he is nearly killed by a federation transport, only to be saved at the last minute by Jedi Knights who persuade Jar Jar's tribe to release him to their custody as a guide.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[iv] R2-D2, also called "R2", is a resourceful astromech droid and is a major character in all six Star Wars films.  He served Padme Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker in turn, showing great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils.  A skilled starship mechanic and fighter pilot's assistant, he formed an unlikely but enduring friendship with the fussy protocol droid C-3PO.  R2 is one of only four characters to appear in all six Star Wars films.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

[v] Yoda served as the Grand Master of the Jedi Order for hundreds of years until the fall of the Republic. In spite of his small stature (two feet two inches), he was the most powerful Jedi Master in galactic history.  When Order 66 was given, he went into exile on the planet Degobah, where he would train Luke Skywalker before becoming "one with the force."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[vi] Anakin Skywalker is a nine-year-old slave, raised on the planet Tatooine.  He is a gifted pilot and engineer, and has the ability to "see things before they happen".  He even creates his own protocol droid, C-3PO.  Anakin was Obi-Wan Kenobi's brilliant student and had a child named Luke, but was swayed to the dark side by Emperor Palpatine.   Anakin battled Kenobi on the site of a volcano and was badly wounded, but was then reborn as Darth Vader.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[vii] Mace Windu was a male Korun Jedi Master of legendary status who was the Master of the Order in the days leading up to the Battle of Geonosis, after which he gave the title to Grand Master Yoda.  Mace Windu served as one of the last members of the Jedi High Council before the Great Jedi Purge.  Serving on the Council, Windu was often regarded as second only to the Grand Master Yoda, though Windu was eight centuries Yoda's junior.  Windu's wisdom and power were considered legendary by many, as were the weight of his words.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page et al

[ix] The art or practice of arriving at the truth by the exchange of logical arguments.  http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/dialectic
