The Border Collie Chronicles

Observations from (arguably) the World's Smartest Dogs;
(but, without question, the bestest friends!)
or, Life As We Understand It, as told from dad's shop.

Let’s Dance[i]

By the BC’s

Too many folks put off stuff that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or don’t want to depart from their routine.

We got to thinking one day about all those folks on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to keep their girlish figures.  Maybe it’s time that we all become a little more flexible.

How often have folks dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched Judge Judy on television?

I can
't count the times I called my friend and said, “How about going to lunch in a half hour?”  She would gas up and stammer, “I can't ... I have clothes on the line … My hair is dirty … I wish I had known yesterday … I had a late breakfast … It looks like rain.”

She died a few years ago ...

- We never did have that lunch together.

Because we
try to cram so much into our lives, we tend to schedule our own headaches.  We live on a sparse diet of promises that we make only to ourselves only when all of the conditions are perfect!

Yeah, "We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get the little one potty-trained ... We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet ... We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college."

But you know, life has a way of accelerating as we get older.  Our days get shorter, and the list of promises that we make to ourselves gets longer.  One morning, we might get up and all we have to show for all of it is a list of “I'm going to's”, “I plan on's”, and our “Someday's, when things settle down a bit”.

We know a “seize the moment” guy, and whenever anyone calls him - he is open to adventure and available for trips.  He keeps an open mind to new ideas.  His enthusiasm for life is contagious.  You talk with him for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Roller Blades and skip the elevator for a bungee cord ... we're a little jealous of "Happy" Henry!

My lips have not touched ice cream in
over 10 years, and I LOVE ice cream.  It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my belly with a spatula and eliminate that entire ol' digestive process.  The other day, I stopped and thought ... What the heck!? ... I got a triple-scoop!!  If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would've died happy.

Now ... go on and have a
most WONDERMOUS day.  Do something you WANT to – not one of those things on your SHOULD DO list.  If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call that you could make, who would you call and what would you say???  Why are you waiting?

Keep on reading and hopefully you’ll understand why we wanted to post this at Christmastime!!

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground?  Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
Or, do you run through each day on the fly?

When you ask someone, “How are you?”  Do you hear their response?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?  Ever told a child
(or your spouse) (or a friend), “We'll do it tomorrow.”?  And in your haste, not see his sorrow?  Ever lost touch?  Let a good friendship die?  Just call (or text) to say “Hi”?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift … Thrown away
Life is not a race ... Take it slower ... Hear the music before the song is over.

So during this joyous and giving season – here is the gift that all of us would like to give to all of you!  We give to you, something that you already have!  The gift of your life and all that it entails – the good, bad and indifferent!  The sweet and the sour!  Even the Hollow Bunnies (something that appears one way, is still good, but yet, somewhat disappointing) Yep – it’s yours – go out and enjoy it to your fullest extent!

To each and every one of you that are reading this; please know that we cherish our relationship with you!  We appreciate all that you do and all that you are – and all that you are to US!!  Thank You!!!

Life may not be the party
that we hoped for, but since we're here ... we might as well have a beer and dance!

SO ... GET OUT THERE AND DANCE!!!!!

Merry Christmas from the BC Crew!!!!!

Luke 2: 9-14

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Amen!

[i] We stole this from an email that we received from our dear friend Pat (and we recognized a lot of names on the email that received it before, and a bunch of folks that it went to with ours!).  We’ve changed it up a little to fit our particular sentiment and style, but we don’t think that we’ve messed with the message!  We wish you all the MOST WONDERMOUS of the Christmas Season and 2017!
