The Border Collie Chronicles

Observations from (arguably) the World's Smartest Dogs;
(but, without question, the bestest friends!)
or, Life As We Understand It, as told from dad's shop.

Christmas 2015

It's been a tough year for us, folks ... we pondered all of the deep stuff that we could say and reminisce on at this time of year ... it just didn't fit (please read the 2013, 2012 or 2011 Christmas articles for our inspirational thoughts ... we still believe it - we just don't have anything new to say!)!  So, for this article, we again turned to our next best avenue ... humor ... or at least attempts toward it!  We'll throw some cartoons out, we don't think that we'll necessarily offend anyone too bad (and, for the few of you that got the palm tree ... we REALLY contemplated posting that one - we thought that one was FUNNY!), but some may not think it's appropriate, but we are hoping that some may share our view on the perversion on the marketability of the season and take some levity in "the" season that is thrust upon us.

Again, these cartoons are all in fun and aren't intended to offend in the least ... be sure and read through the message and quotes at the end ... hopefully, you'll catch our punch!

As you know, we lost Miss Barksalot and the Ossimistic Crippled Dog this year - that was really tough on our people.  The other evening, Dad purposely called out "Roo ... Patch" pretty loud when we were all just lounging around and he noticed that Gall was the only one that sat up and looked around.  Other than that, all of the pups seem to just be going about their normal routine.  You know that we have previously surmised that death is really a part of life.  It seems that the BC's, in general, seem to take that approach anyway.  It doesn't mean that we don't miss them, or have forgotten them - just that we have accepted it and are moving forward with our lives.

As we continued contemplating this concept a little more ... maybe Christmas is the ULTIMATE death and life sort of thing ... as we understand it, little Jesus was born into this world to live as a man, and then die, as a man ... in order to rise again and give ALL of us everlasting life!  Pretty cool!  And this IS his birthday!!!!  That's why we are celebrating!!!!

With that thought ... we'd like to say ...

Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!!

Merry Christmas to all ...

And to all, a Good Night!!!

Some (other) things To Think On ...

I try to be unusually kind and compassionate to those around me during the Holidays, because I never know who will end up being my Secret Santa.

Q:  Why is Christmas just like your job?
A:  You do all the work and the fat guy with the suit gets all the credit.

Last year, I asked Santa for the sexiest person ever for Christmas.  I woke up in a box.

Knock Knock
Who's there?
Avery
Avery who?
Avery merry Christmas!

In a small Southern town there was a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it.  One small feature bothered me.  The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets.  Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left.

At a "Quickie Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets.  She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.  She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage.

Sticking it in my face she said, "See, it says right here, 'The three wise man came from afar.'"

.

.

This holiday season, in lieu of gifts, I've decided to give everyone my opinion.

Q:  Why is Santa so jolly?
A:  Because he knows where all the naughty girls live.

Remember, Christmas isn't about how big the tree is, or what's under it.  It's about who's around it!!!
